BEng (Honours) Mechanical Engineering

Students who complete an IMechE-accredited engineering degree are considered to have met, either partially or fully, the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or an Incorporated Engineer (IEng). This provides a strong foundation for graduates to pursue professional engineering status after completing a period of initial professional development in the industry.

The integrated MEng Engineering programme fully satisfies the academic benchmark requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration under UK-SPEC. The BEng (Hons) Engineering degree partially meets these requirements, and graduates will need to undertake an approved further learning programme to achieve CEng status. However, the BEng (Hons) does fully meet the academic requirements for registration as an Incorporated Engineer (IEng).

This course includes the opportunity for a one-year, university-supported industrial placement between Stage Two and Stage Three. This placement allows students to apply their theoretical knowledge in a real engineering environment, gaining practical experience before returning for the final year of undergraduate study.

The optional MEng stage provides an additional year of advanced study, offering deeper insights into engineering principles and a chance to showcase skills through a substantial group-based research project in Stage Four. Students who choose to exit the programme after completing Stage Three will be awarded the BEng (Hons) Engineering degree.
