Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Engineer Degree Apprenticeship (Level 6)

This course provides a valuable opportunity to gain a Bachelor’s degree while developing the specialist skills required in Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). The programme is designed in collaboration with the British Institute for Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT), offering two degree pathways — BEng (Hons) or BSc (Hons) — depending on your work-based needs and personal preferences.

The NDT Degree Apprenticeship builds expertise in materials and manufacturing, essential and advanced NDT techniques, and industry practices. Apprentices will apply theoretical knowledge through practical, real-world applications, helping them contribute meaningfully to the manufacturing and engineering sectors.

The course is available via Face-to-Face or Distance Learning and typically takes four years to complete, followed by an End Point Assessment (EPA). Apprentices continue working full-time while attending university part-time, allowing for a flexible learning experience.

Applicants must be employed and sponsored by an organisation. Entry requirements include Maths and English at Level 2. Applications are welcomed from those with varied qualifications. Typical applicants will have:

  • Three A-Levels (grades A–C), including Maths and a Science or Engineering subject, or

  • A minimum of three NDT Level 2 methods (including at least one complex method such as ultrasonic, radiography, eddy current, etc.), or

  • Advanced qualifications such as NDT Level 3 certification.

Other relevant qualifications may also be considered on merit.
