BEng (Honours) Electromechanical Engineering

Students who complete an IMechE-accredited engineering degree are considered to have fulfilled, either partially or fully, the academic requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) or an Incorporated Engineer (IEng). This positions graduates strongly to pursue professional engineering status after a period of structured professional development within the industry.

The integrated MEng Engineering programme fully meets the academic benchmark requirements for Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration, as outlined by UK-SPEC. The BEng (Hons) Engineering degree meets these requirements in part. To achieve CEng status with a BEng (Hons), graduates will need to undertake an approved further learning programme. However, the BEng (Hons) on its own fully satisfies the academic criteria for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) registration.

The course offers the option of a one-year, university-supported industrial placement between Stage Two and Stage Three. This gives students the opportunity to apply their theoretical engineering knowledge in a professional setting before returning to complete Stage Three.

Students who continue onto the optional MEng stage benefit from a deeper exploration of advanced engineering principles. This final year also includes a substantial group research project, providing the chance to demonstrate independent thinking and problem-solving skills in an applied context. Students who successfully complete Stage Three but do not proceed to Stage Four will be awarded the BEng (Hons) Engineering qualification.
