The Speakers at the seminar

The NETP Industry Seminar series launched with the first Autumn Seminar, themed ‘Innovation in engineering’.  This expansion of the NETP aims to provide students and academic staff with first hand insights into the latest developments in engineering. The three speakers delivered very engaging interesting talks covering some of the vey latest developments in engineering.

Dr Sanjay Patel, Technical Team Leader – Aerodynamics Capability from the Aircraft Research Association spoke about the commercialisation in the use of pressure sensitive paint and its use in the development of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD).

Jonathan Cooper, Technical Director, Shield Engineering, delved into the technical and commercial challenges of manufacturing Hydraulic ERS (Energy Recovery Systems) to meet customer expectations.

To conclude, Matthew Aldridge, Managing Director, igus, looked at the developments in ‘smart’ plastics in predictive maintenance and their role in supporting Industry 4.0 manufacturing.
The Seminar was a great success with over 90 attendees, including students, academics and a few new companies.

Here’s what the students thought:

“I found the insight into modern techniques to resolve traditional problems particularly beneficial ”

“I really liked hearing the direct input from those currently developing/using the processes”

The next seminar is already in the planning and speakers already lined up!
