HND Engineering

The HND in Engineering covers a wide range of core topics essential for today’s professional engineers. The course includes both mechanical and electrical engineering principles, alongside engineering design, materials science, and systems development. Students also explore quality assurance, engineering industry practices, economics, management, and other practical skills required in the modern workplace.

Many students have the opportunity to complete a 12-month paid engineering work placement with a local company through the Northants Engineering Training Partnership (NETP), gaining valuable real-world experience. This HND in Engineering is also available as a part-time top-up option for students who have already completed their HNC at the University of Northampton or another approved institution.

Successful completion of the HND provides a direct progression route into the BSc (Hons) Engineering degree, offering a seamless path to higher-level qualifications.

The course is delivered one or two days per week to support flexible learning for those who are working or have other commitments. Typical entry requirements are 140–160 UCAS tariff points. Applicants are also expected to have achieved GCSE Mathematics (or equivalent) at Grade C or above.
